About Us

Better Neighbors is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing programming and educational opportunities to marginalized populations, especially those affected by incarceration and addiction disorders. We believe that everyone deserves a chance to rebuild their lives and become positive, contributing members of their communities. Our mission is to help people change for the better and create “Better Neighbors.”
We understand that the vast majority of those incarcerated will one day be released and will become someone’s neighbor. Our focus is on helping these individuals by providing programs that are not only meaningful but also practical. Our flagship program, Art Inside Out (AIO), combines art and positive dialogue, offering a unique and relatable experience designed by Kirk Charlton during his time at the Eastern Oregon Correctional Institution. Programs like AIO have shown to reduce disciplinary issues and lower recidivism rates, proving the power of relatable and impactful programming.
At Better Neighbors, we also support other businesses and nonprofits that assist, mentor, and hire the formerly incarcerated. By working together, we create a network of support that extends beyond our programs and into the broader community. Our goal is to help people transform their lives by offering opportunities that encourage personal growth and community engagement. Join us in our mission to help create better neighbors.
